(See the below Epworth Sleepiness Scale for more indicators.)
49 million Americans have a sleep disorder and nearly 60% have a chronic condition. At least 84 disorders of sleeping and waking lead to decreased quality of life and reduced personal health. These disorders can lead to problems falling asleep and staying asleep, difficulties staying awake or staying on a regular sleep/wake cycle, sleepwalking, nightmares, leg/body movement, and other problems that interfere with sleep.
In order to lead a healthy and productive life, 7.5 to 8.5 hours of quality sleep per night is required by most people. Without it we may suffer consequences we do not even realize.
