Don Allison, M.D. Family Medicine, Obstetric Physician

Dr. Don Allison specializes in Family Medicine. He joined the Morton General Hospital medical staff in August of 2007 and sees his patients at the Randle Medical Clinic.

Dr. Allison was originally from Oklahoma. However, he earned his medical degree at the University of Texas in Galveston, Texas in 2003. He completed his residency in Family Medicine in Waco Family Medicine in Waco, Texas in 2006 followed by an additional one-year fellowship in Rural Medicine in Tacoma.

In addition to working in the full scope of Family Medicine, Dr. Allison also performs colonoscopies at the hospital.
On his “off hours,” Dr. Allison does part-time Urgent Care work at the American Lake Veterans Hospital in Tacoma. With that, he has access to the Veterans Administration Computer Patient Record System, which provided continuity of care for some of our area veterans’ healthcare needs.

Charles Thomas Anderson, M.D. General Surgeon, Emergency Physician

Dr. “Tom” Anderson is Morton General Hospital’s primary surgeon. He has been the director of the hospital’s surgery clinic since his move to Morton in January 2003. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in chemistry at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA in 1979 and then went on to work on his medical degree at the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, graduating in 1983.

Dr. Anderson completed his General Surgery Residency from 1983 to 1988 at the Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He served as a surgeon in the U.S. Air Force at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina from 1988-1994 before opening his private practice in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1994.

Dr. Anderson specializes in Laparoscopic cholecytectomy and endoscopy, upper and lower.

Merrell Cooper, D.O. Family Practice and Obstetric Physician

Dr. Merrell Cooper specializes in Family Practice Medicine at the Morton Medical Center. He is also busy in Obstetrics, delivering babies at Morton General Hospital.

Dr. Cooper came to Morton to work at the Morton Medical Center in 1993 after completing his Internship and Residency at the Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, IA from 1990 to 1993.

He completed his Doctorate of Osteopathy in 1990 at the University of Osteopathic Medical and Health Science in Des Moines.

In addition to obstetrics and general family practice, Dr. Cooper also performs spinal manipulations and treats acute back injuries and non-surgical orthopedics.

Thomas Calderon, M.D. Emergency Physician

Dr. Thomas Calderon specializes in emergency medicine. He joined Morton General Hospital’s emergency department in 2007. He came to us after a successful practice in family medicine, earning his medical degree at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City in 1995. Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Calderon earned his undergraduate degree in 1988 at the California State University in Fullerton, Calif.

He was employed at the Seamar Community Center in Bellingham before joining the Morton General Hospital medical staff.

Dr. Calderon enjoys fishing, running, bicycling and traveling with his family.

Daniel Elizaga, M.D. Emergency Physician

Dr. Daniel Elizage was Morton General Hospital's primary surgeon for many years as well as a full-time family practice and emergency room physician. He retired from performing major surgeries in 2007 but continued to utiize his skills as an Emergency Physician in Morton General’s emergency department.

Dr. Elizaga earned his medical degree in 1962 at the College of Medicine University of the Philippines in Manila, Philippines. He completed his M.D. internship in 1961-1962 and then a five-year surgical residency from 1962 to 1967 at the Philippines General Hospital. He also worked there as a surgical instructor from 1967-1969.

Dr. Elizaga came to America in 1969 and completed his internship at the Portland Adventist Hospital in Portland, Ore. from 1969-1970. He began practicing in Morton in June 1970.

Jeffrey Ford, M.D. Emergency Department Director

Dr. Jeff Ford specializes in Emergency Medicine. He is the director of Morton General Hospital’s Emergency Department and the Chief of Medical Staff for the hospital.

Dr. Ford earned his Bachelors of Science Degree at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1988. He then went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta in 1992. He completed his two-year Family Practice Residence in Calgary in 1994.
Dr. Ford worked in private practice for eight years before moving to emergency medicine. He worked at the Providence Seaside  Hospital in Seaside, Ore. for eight until coming to Morton General in 2002.

Mark Hansen, M.D. Family Practice Physician

Dr. Mark Hansen is a Family Practice physician, working at the Morton Medical Center, next door to Morton General Hospital. He came to Morton in 1997 after completing his Family Practice Residency in San Bernardino County Medical Center in San Bernardino, Calif.

Dr. Hansen earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, Calif. in 1994. His undergraduate degree was a Bachelor’s of Science in chemistry at the Pacific Union College in Angwin, Calif. in 1989.

Gretchen Jones Licensed Midwife

Gretchen Jones is a Licensed Midwife practicing in Morton and Eatonville and delivers babies at Morton General Hospital.  She specializes in caring for low-risk women and their babies throughout pregnancy, labor and delivery, and until eight weeks postpartum. 

Gretchen moved to Morton in 2000 while completing her midwifery training at Seattle Midwifery School.  During her training she precepted with Licensed Midwives, Certified Nurse Midwives, and Obstetricians throughout southwest Washington.  She entered into private practice in 2002 and began delivering babies at Morton General in 2009.  She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon in 1993.

Gretchen enjoys hiking, gardening, traveling, reading.

Riad Kesiry, M.D. Internal Medicine Specialist

Dr. Riad Kesiry is a board certified Internal Medicine Physician. He joined our staff in 2007 after completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. He earned his medical degree at the Damascus University in Damascus, Syria in 1998.

As an Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Kesiry puts special focus on HTN and heart disease as well as COPD, Asthma and diabetes. He also has a special interest in as preventive medicine.

Kevin McCurry, M.D. Family Practice Physician, Sleep Lab Director

Dr. Kevin McCurry, who specializes in Family Practice Medicine at Riffe Medical Center in Mossyrock, also serves as medical director of Morton General Hospital Sleep Lab. p>

Dr. McCurry earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in geology at Portland State University in Portland, Ore. in 1984 after attending Multnomah  School of the Bible in Portland from 1977-1980.

Dr. McCurry completed his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in Camden, Utah in 1990, graduating with honors. He completed a one-year Internal Medicine Internship at the University of Utah and then went on to a two-year residency at Shasta Cascade Family Medicine at the University of California in Redding, Calif., where he served as Chief Resident in his third year.

Dr. McCurry worked at the Morton Medical Center for three years before moving to the Riffe Medical Center in 1996.

Esther Park-Hwang Gynecology Physician

Dr. Esther Park-Hwang specializes in women’s healthcare. In addition to working part time at Morton General Hospital, she also works with Multicare Health Systems in Tacoma where she practices gynecology and obstetrics. She is also on the OB/GYN faculty at the Tacoma Family Medicine Residency Program and Rural Family Medicine Fellowship Program.

Dr. Park-Hwang completed her medical degree at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California in 1993 after earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1989.

She completed an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Ill.

Dr. Park-Hwang joined the Morton General Hospital medical staff in 2009, bringing us a long sought after gynecology specialist. She has a special interest in menopause management, premenstrual syndrome, abnormal pap smears and dysfunctional uterine bleeding.

Dr. Park-Hwang enjoys hiking, nature walks, overseas mission trips, classical music and spending time with family.

John Shaw, M.D. Emergency Physician

Dr. John Shaw began his medical career while serving in the U.S. Navy. After earning his medical degree at the Loyola University in Chicago, Ill. in 1984, he completed his Family Medicine internship and residency at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Fl. He has been board certified in Family Medicine since 1989.
Dr. Shaw also completed two master’s degrees—Tropical Infectious Disease at the London University in London, England in 1992 and then a master’s degree in Family Medicine at the MEDUNSA University in Guarancua, South Africa in 2004.

Dr. Shaw served as a family physician working in a rural South African hospital district from 1994 to 2000 and then in Bellingham, Wash. beginning in 2001. He joined our medical staff in 2009.

Dr. Shaw has a special interest in the people of Burma located in Southeast Asia. He visits the region often to provide medical education to the medics with the Karen Tribe. This tribe lives in the mountainous jungle region of Burma (also called Myanmar) under very difficult conditions facing a military government which has conducted genocide for over 30 years. Dr. Shaw works with a group called the “Free Burma Rangers” to provide medical care, relief work and document human-rights abuses to many of the ethnic people of Burma.

John Yergan, M.D. Emergency Physician

Dr. John Yergan specializes in Emergency Medicine and is a regular face in the Morton General Hospital Emergency Department. Prior to his employment at Morton General, Dr. Yergan worked in Emergency Medicine practice at the Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Wash. from 1991 to 2007.

Dr. Yergan earned his medical degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York in 1976. He completed his residency at the Montefiore Medical Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York from 1976-1979. He also completed a fellowship at the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Washington School of Medicine from 1980-1982. In addition to his emergency medicine specialty, Dr. Yergan is also board certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Yergan is very interested in Health Services Research, especially in issues of quality of care and access to care. In his hours away from the emergency department, he enjoys hiking and is an avid sailor.
